GAE Response to Furloughs
On June 21, 2009 news surrounding the potential implementation of furloughs hit the press.  GAE informed its members and immediately began exploring whether there were legal remedies that could be pursued. Below, you can follow GAE’s activity on this issue--from being the first organization to express our disdain for the proposal and providing updates to our members on the State Department of Education’s posture on the issue to providing an action plan to our locals affiliates urging them to ask for extreme diligence when examining line items for reduction in local budgets.

GAE is now in the process of developing legislative recommendations around the state’s tax structure to help prevent such detrimental action in the future. We will continue to advocate for you.  We will not only inform you of what’s going on, but we will speak out for you in forums where we are able to present solutions to assist in our state’s crisis.

It’s time for ACTION!
